ABBY KOUTCH
BFA INTERIOR DESIGN
(SHE / HER / HERS)
The Trumbauer Institute aims to teach interior designers and architects already working in the field about historic restoration and preservation techniques in a cutting-edge, new way. In addition to learning traditional techniques, they also learn about new technologies such as holograms, virtual video, 3D printing, and experimentation with new prototypes. The goal is to create a think tank in Philadelphia where designers and architects can reach any building in the world and learn from them up close, as well as solve ongoing problems in construction and preservation. The building itself is the old Boy Scouts of America building on North 22nd Street and Winter Street in Philadelphia. While it is not occupied, it is still owned by the city and has not been touched since 2010. I used the techniques that the school would implement in my design, making an abandoned building functional and open to the community again.
